Hangover Remedies 101
People often wonder why they wake up the day after drinking feeling like they were hit by a Mack truck, or why they are so thirsty they feel like they have been walking naked in the Sahara desert with no water for a month straight.
- Drinking Water
The answer to this is dehydration. According to http://www.about.com/, "The ethanol contained in alcoholic beverages has a dehydrating effect which causes headaches, dry mouth, nausea, and tiredness." Ethanol causes frequent urination and it also draws liquids from the brain. The lack of water in your body the day after drinking is what causes the thirst and also the headache that accompanies your alarm clock the morning after a night of shots and beer bongs.
- Drinking More Alcohol
"It is really hard to stomach the day after binge drinking, but it really does help me get on with my day like nothing happened the night before," says Schulze. http://www.about.com/ states, "Drinking more alcohol the day after drinking actually does work to an extent. This is because ethanol in alcoholic drinks blocks the breakdown of methanol to formic acid." In the case of the "Hair of the Dog" remedy, it seems like the college drinking pro's might have the right idea.

Jesus Burger
THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
JESUS BURGERS WILL BE SERVED FOR THE LAST TIME OF THE YEAR
JESUS BURGERS? Are you aware that there is a local church group that feeds the inebriated college students? This group cooks hamburgers and cheese burgers with the fixin’s on warm fall and srping select weekend nights. Have you or acquaintances partaken in this Bowling Green tradition? Let’s discuss.
Say its you’re leaving your local bar/pub/club and heading back to your residence for some much-needed slumber. But wait; evil hunger strikes. There is a pace you can go in BG and even within walking distance. This place has the holy cure for your evil hunger. This heavenly cure won’t cost you a dime. Would you be willing to make this short stroll in the name of hunger?
Well most likely someone in your group of friends has made this trip sometime in their college career. The atmosphere is calm and friendly. The food is greasy and satisfying. This is the perfect evening wrap up for a Falcon. So if you find yourself near campus on a warm Saturday evening venture over and get yourself a Jesus Burger. Because consider this…WWJD?
Jesus burgers will be served this Friday across from Founders Resident Hall on Wooster Street at the “Jesus House”. In addition to Jesus burgers there are God dogs and potato chips.
I Kissed A Girl And I Liked It
Let’s say it’s for attention. Why do we get dressed up and put on a cute outfit and do our makeup? These girls are probably out just letting the booze and situation flow with people they are comfortable with. When we go out we just want a “good time”. And if a few cute guys will buy us free drinks if we make out then who’s it hurting. Attention and comfortable situation; could this be the reason?
But, maybe its because these girls are curious? If it is because of curiosity then this is the perfect situation without having to admit to being curious to your friends. These girls can make out testing these feelings undetected and with no strings attached.
Taste? Yes, we’re going there. This girl probably likes girls but her friends don’t know. They go to the bar with their lady-friends hoping that everyone gets drunk and starts touching lips.
So if you’re a lady and you’ve made out with any of your lady-friends ask yourself which “girl kisser” you are. Thoughts?

Sick
Are you sick of going out to the bars in BG? Do you feel like you see the same people, hear the same music? Why not stay at home and party? There are lots of great ways to have fun at home.
4. Hat Party
Have everyone where a different hat. Sombreros, crown and viking hats are always a good choice, but the options are endless.
These are only a few of the classics and the list is almost endless. For more party ideas you can visit http://www.celebrations.com/themeparty.
Recession
I just got back from Vegas for a broadcasters conference and being in Vegas made me grateful for the nightlife in Bowling Green. I'm not talking about the atmosphere or the level of fun, although at the end of the day I do like BG better for both. There is something about the aroma of Bud light beer and popcorn I missed while out in Vegas. But, what I missed most were the prices. Every drink in Vegas cost around $15. That is before tip.
I know that the economy is not doing so well at the moment, and that means people are hurting for cash. That's one more reason that you should come out in Bowling Green. If you are 21 years or older you get free admission to any bar. ANY bar. Now, that's some money in your pocket.
In addition to free admission, there are drink specials at every bar, every day. That is way more than any Vegas club or bar. With dollar beers and dollar shots, you don't have to break the bank in order to have a good time in BG.
Also if you live in walking distance of the bar or have a friend who do you can save even more money, by drinking before heading to the bar. This is more commonly known as pregaming.
By buying, a bottle of liquor or case of beer and sharing it with a friend you can decrease you bar spending by about 25-75%. (The percentage all depends on the amount of pre-bar consumption).

Shots, shots, shots, shots , shots, EVERYBODY!
Now I have not done extensive research on the subject, and I am not a scientist, but I do have a theory that there is an action reaction going on here.
I believe (and again, I am not a scientist), that there is a high correlation between the number of shots one takes and the number of times one blacks out.
I cannot tell you the number of times I have seen people falling down or falling asleep at the bar.
And then when they get up they either keep right on dancing or head right back to the bar and order another shot.
I just don't understand it. So, this is a public service announcement to all BGians
(if that is a word?): Please do not take numerous shots and dance, drive, or walk
Brought to you by party girl!

Don't You Have Any Manners?
FELLA'S! This is a shout out to you. This past Friday I was out at Tubby's, having a fine time, when all of a sudden I felt someone grab my butt. When I turned around and confronted them, the group standing behind me acted like they had no idea what just happened.
The fact that no one wanted to "man" up to the act, just upset me even more. Since no one wanted to man up, I pushed the guy directly behind me out of anger.
I get so upset when guys do this. They feel like somehow it’s ok to grab female’s butts at bars. Well it’s NOT, and it happens all the time. Myself personally have reprimanded five guys this school year alone.
I don’t care if it’s a pat, a tap or a grab it’s all the same. It’s
all disrespectful and technically it’s assault. So ladies, if you would like, next time a male grabs your ass you can call the cops, on his ass!
Now, he will most likely disappear before they get there, so I recommend taking care of the situation your self. You can do this in a variety of ways. Please note these are just suggestion that I have gathered from girlfriends I am not personally endorsing any of them because I am a non-violent person and a follower of Dr. Kings teachings.
However, if you choose to use one of these suggestions I am told they have a 100% efficiency rate that, that man will never touch your butt again and will take a second to think before he decides to grab another female’s butt in the future.
The methods I have gathered from my research to stop this despicable behavior, in no particular order are as follows:
1. Slap him across the face
2. Throw your drink in his face
3. Punch him in the face
4. Grab him by his neck and choke him
5. Send your boyfriend or nearest large male friend over to him to teach him some manners!

Ok Ladies, and if you are a lady, then this does not apply to you, but if you are simply a female without any class, and are in need of class, then this is for you. Warm weather is fast approaching and that means people will be wearing less clothing. This does not mean, however that one should walk around half or more than half-naked. It is not all right, it is not cute, it is not sexy! It is however, sleazy, cheap and easy looking. I am not saying that you are in fact a tramp only that you appear to be one when you dress this way.
Just this past weekend, (when it was still cold out) I saw a girl at the bar wearing a T-shirt as a dress. And because it was so short and the fact that she was dancing on a pole at the Attic I knew she was wearing a black thong to go with her T-shirt as a dress look. Now, as a lover of fashion I can appreciate the fact that her black thong complimented the black writing on her T-shirt, but not the fact that I knew that. I do not want to see anyone’s undergarments at the bar and neither do men looking for a potential girlfriend.
The moral of this post is if you are a female seeking a mate or male companion which will last more than one night have some class and cover your ass. Well, actually cover more than your ass. Men like mystery and your cooch hanging out that leaves practically nothing to the imagination. I’m not saying you have to dress in a burka when you go out. Use the 50% rule. If your going to wear tight shorts, wear a top that covers your chest and arms or if you wear a dress that exposes your cleavage, then make sure the bottom is long and flowing. Like a maxim dress.
Stay classy BG!

Being Gay in BG
The moral of the story is that BG is full of intolerant, ignorant people when it comes to the matter of gays and it’s really unfortunate. My story from this weekend is just one example of this. Now I don’t know about other college town’s nightlife, but BG doesn’t have a strictly gay bar. Not strictly in the sense that you must be gay to enter, but in the sense that it serves the gay community and it’s interest.
The fact that BG doesn’t have a gay bar made me begin to think, why not? I don’t think the answer is because there isn’t a big enough customer base for it. In fact as a student at BG, with gay friends I know that’s not the reason. Every year the University enrolls thousands of young adults I’m certain that the gay men and women included in that number alone could support a gay bar. To add to that number of potential customers are the people in town and in the surrounding areas. In addition to that number is the number of straight people, well at least females who would come too.
So, then if it isn’t the problem of lack of want/need, what is it? I think it’s the city. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t think of any other reason, but the city is too intolerant of gays. The old yelling man is a prime example.
Now, I have not forgotten that BG does have gay NIGHT at uptown every Tuesday. However one night a week is very different from a bar devoted to the gay scene. Since I talked about the townies having a problem with it I must also mention the conservative students from small towns much like Bowling Green who attend BGSU. They could also be apart of the reason we don’t have a gay bar, but I feel there are far too many more students from larger cities or who are simply less ignorant that would out way the ignorant few.
So, here is my message Bowling Green, as my friend Justin likes to say GROW UP, stop being ignorant and open a gay bar!

FIGHT NIGHT
3723048
Why do people feel the need to fight when they go out. I don't know if it's the warm weather or what, but lately, it seems as if, more fights have been breaking out at bars in BG. Just this past Saturday one of my friends got into a fight in the bathroom. He was in the bathroom at Kamikazes, when he noticed one of the guys who had just used the bathroom didn't wash his hands. (Which is sooooooo disgusting) So he said, "dude your not going to wash your hands that's gross" The guy was like, "oh, you want me to wash my hands, just for you I'll wash my hands." The next thing you know my friend turns to leave and the "dirty boy's " friend says, I'll wash your hands with my balls. My friend, we will call him, James turns around to look at who said that and gets punched in the mouth, which knocks him to the ground. Now James is a buff dude so if he got knocked out that's a good punch.
I just don't understand how a fistfight can break out because of hygiene. I mean it just doesn't make sense to me. I just sick of a few people who can’t handle their alcohol ruining a fun night for everyone. I mean I guess it could always be worse. For example in Toledo when there are fights you have to worry about getting shot if a fight breaks out. Now, I’m from Toledo so I have love for the city, but please leave you guns at home too. No one wants to worry about getting shot at or punched in the mouth for asking someone to wash his or her hands. The point of going out is to have fun, NOT get angry!
So this is a shout out to all those who like to punch people when they get drunk,
Please do not go out in BG.
Thanks, xoxo

Want to hear live music?
When you attend Howards you can hear anything from a local rapper to the newest funk band. It is a great place to find music and sounds to add to your collection. Or if you have a music group, Howards is a great place to share your sound and gain fans.
The small stage and crowd area create a very intimate and personal feeling. You can either dance in the crowd or sit at the bar and enjoy the sounds.
Howards offers a nice alternative to the usual night club scene. For a complete list of events you can click on Howards and view the schedule.

Thursdays are for Dollar Drinks!
Chicos is located on Wooster near the corner of Main. You do have to pay a $5 cover charge, but the $5 gets you dollar drinks the rest of the night. This can mean all top shelf liquor. A goose and juice in BG runs about $5 so with it at just a dollar this is a great deal. There are some exclusions such as martinis, but you can still get any shot or mixed drink for a dollar.
The atmosphere is very urban with exposed brick walls and artistic photographs lining the walls. It is also one of the nicer, more upscale bars in BG. So if you want to take a girl out to get to know her it's a great spot. Plus they serve food. They have everything from burgers and fries to mozzarella sticks and other appetizers.
The music varies and covers most genres. It's a cool place to chill and talk with friends. The crowd is mixed, but it is exclusively college students.
Chicos is hands down the best place to be on a Thursday night. As long as you don't try to overcompensate for the $5 dollar cover with too many drinks, you are guaranteed to have a fun time for your money!

So you're new to BG? Here's a list of where to go and what to do on the weekends. Dancing, drinking, and eating are the most common activities students partake in at the end of a long school week.
First, starting out at Brathaus for a "Legal Joint" is a must. Located on East Court Street, Brathaus is fun for everyone with their laid back bar atmosphere. There are pool tables and games to play to get your fun started. Famous for their specialty drink called a "Legal Joint," Brathaus is one of the most popular bars for students who are over 21.
Second, you'll want to make your way onto Main Street, where all the action is. Your first stop on the strip is Tubby's for a jello-shot. Tubbys offers all the latest and classic hip-hop music to get you moving.
Once your in the mood to dance you'll want to make your way to the biggest dance floor in town at the Clazel. Located next door, it's definitely the best bar to go to if you want to dance. The vintage movie theater turned club provides students with a dance club atmosphere with a high level of sophistication. Clazel is the third stop to ensure a fun, exciting evening out in downtown Bowling Green.
If all that dancing is making you thirsty it's time to head over to Nate and Wally's. Nate and Wally's is located on Wooster and features "The Fishbowl". It is literally a small fishbowl filled with alcohol. When you've had a great night but don't want it to end just yet Nate and Wally's is great place to go. The best part it taste amazing!
After drinking and dancing the night away, the best stop is the last one; Myles Pizza. Myles pizza is on the route back to the dorm rooms and popular off campus living quarters. Famous for their thick crust and backwards toppings, Myles pizza hits the spot after a night of drinks and dancing.
Following these steps ensures students and visitors a very fun, unique Friday night.
THE CO$T OF GOING OUT
On a weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio the average night dweller can expect to put a TWENTY to FOURTY dollar dent in their pocketbook. The cost of a good time is on the rise and showing no signs of dwindling to anything affordable for a fund-less college student. Expenses such as alcohol, and bar cover are just a few examples of the necessities that roll along with being a Falcon on the weekend.
First, college students participate in a pre-bar ritual called “pregaming.” This consists of binge drinking heavily to lessen the blow of the bar tab. Starting out with a six pack of beer will usually run you about eight dollars, roughly $1.30 per beer. This is just the beginning of the night and your bank statement is already paying the price. Second, tipsy students move on from their pregaming to the big show, the bar. The bar first robs students of their paycheck for a cover charge. This expense costs anywhere from five to ten dollars depending on the bar. The biggest buck breaker come next; the drinks at the bar. A beer or a shot at the bar costs anywhere from two dollars to ten dollars.
The last stop on the train to broke is the late night food run. Already being in the hole anywhere from twenty to forty dollars, all senses of good and bad are thrown to the wind on the walk home. Stopping for food costs between five and ten dollars. Due to the pregaming and bar hopping, knowledge of bank account balances are lost somewhere between the third tequila shot and the fourth Bud Light Lime.
Pregaming, bar hopping, and the late night food run on one night of the weekend costs roughly thirty dollars, or in other words—an arm and a leg. With a thirty dollar debit on their bank statement, BGSU college students can think of only one thing on the very blurry, aching Saturday morning… What time are we starting tonight?

What to Wear...
Because it's the winter season dressing for BG nightlife and still trying to be the hottest person out can be difficult but it can be done. Keep in mind that BG is a college town, so anything goes. You can wear your favorite pair of jeans or finest party girl dress. Whatever the case dressing for the weather and looking great are two things that aren't hard to do.
Girls
The two staples you need for winter are a stylish coat and a killer pair of boots. With these two things you are sure to look hot even during the cold winter months. There are multiple possibilities for both, but if you are going to spend money shopping this winter spend it on these two items
A leather or pleather (fake leather) jacket is a great going out piece. It is edgy, sexy and always in style. Plus is you get a real leather jacket it will keep you extremely warm. (do not wear it as shown, if you do you will not stay warm) This one is from Victoria Secret.com and is on sale for $150. It is a little pricey for most college students, but you can always find a version of this coat at forever21. To make this look even hotter, you can add a cute chunky scarf and a knit hat. The possibilities for these are endless. Add whatever color or pattern of scarves and hats you like. You can make the outfit your own by doing this. You can also change it up by wearing different scarves and hats depending on the look you want. Here is just and idea.
I love the look of the big comfy scarves and hats and once again not only do they look cute, but they are warm! If you don't like the leather look. I suggest you choose a wool coat. I really like the military style ones right now. They have a bit of fun to them. This one is from Victoria Secret.com again and it's on sale for $99 dollars. It's also a little expensive, but you can always find cheaper alternatives.
This style of coat goes great with a pair of gloves and a hat. I would skip the scarf if it has a high button up collar, like this one. However this look below made a scarf under the jacket work, so play around with it until you find something you like.
Fedoras and newsboy hats are also fun hats to wear in the winter.
Since you must be put together from head to toe, lets look at some boots. Boots are one of the best things about winter and not just because they keep your feet warm. There are so many styles and colors to choose from and they are only brought out during the chilly winter months. Here are a few of my favorites.
First of all anything suede is great, it just looks warm!
These knee high boots are sexy and comfortable with their flat soles.
I also like again anything leather and these lace up, boots are very masculine, but can be extremely attractive on females when worn with confidence.
Finally the ankle booties are very flirty and can really make a statement in a bright color, like this electric blue. Or you can always do a more toned down statement with a black pair of booties that have some kind of detail.
It doesn't matter what style, color are variation you choose. All that matters is that you stay warm, while still looking cool in the winter. Please do not get caught in the cold wearing a tube top and some strappy stilettos with your feet all exposed on Main Street. You may think you are tolerating frostbite to look good, but in reality you just look cold.
