Thursdays are for Dollar Drinks!

So, it's Thursday night and your not doing anything OR your friend suggest you go to BG, where should you go, what should you do? The answer is, go to Chicos for dollar drinks!

Chicos is located on Wooster near the corner of Main. You do have to pay a $5 cover charge, but the $5 gets you dollar drinks the rest of the night. This can mean all top shelf liquor. A goose and juice in BG runs about $5 so with it at just a dollar this is a great deal. There are some exclusions such as martinis, but you can still get any shot or mixed drink for a dollar.

The atmosphere is very urban with exposed brick walls and artistic photographs lining the walls. It is also one of the nicer, more upscale bars in BG. So if you want to take a girl out to get to know her it's a great spot. Plus they serve food. They have everything from burgers and fries to mozzarella sticks and other appetizers.

The music varies and covers most genres. It's a cool place to chill and talk with friends. The crowd is mixed, but it is exclusively college students.

Chicos is hands down the best place to be on a Thursday night. As long as you don't try to overcompensate for the $5 dollar cover with too many drinks, you are guaranteed to have a fun time for your money!

The Real BG experience

So you're new to BG? Here's a list of where to go and what to do on the weekends. Dancing, drinking, and eating are the most common activities students partake in at the end of a long school week.

First, starting out at Brathaus for a "Legal Joint" is a must. Located on East Court Street, Brathaus is fun for everyone with their laid back bar atmosphere. There are pool tables and games to play to get your fun started. Famous for their specialty drink called a "Legal Joint," Brathaus is one of the most popular bars for students who are over 21.

Second, you'll want to make your way onto Main Street, where all the action is. Your first stop on the strip is Tubby's for a jello-shot. Tubbys offers all the latest and classic hip-hop music to get you moving.

Once your in the mood to dance you'll want to make your way to the biggest dance floor in town at the Clazel. Located next door, it's definitely the best bar to go to if you want to dance. The vintage movie theater turned club provides students with a dance club atmosphere with a high level of sophistication. Clazel is the third stop to ensure a fun, exciting evening out in downtown Bowling Green.

If all that dancing is making you thirsty it's time to head over to Nate and Wally's. Nate and Wally's is located on Wooster and features "The Fishbowl". It is literally a small fishbowl filled with alcohol. When you've had a great night but don't want it to end just yet Nate and Wally's is great place to go. The best part it taste amazing!

After drinking and dancing the night away, the best stop is the last one; Myles Pizza. Myles pizza is on the route back to the dorm rooms and popular off campus living quarters. Famous for their thick crust and backwards toppings, Myles pizza hits the spot after a night of drinks and dancing.

Following these steps ensures students and visitors a very fun, unique Friday night.

THE CO$T OF GOING OUT

On a weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio the average night dweller can expect to put a TWENTY to FOURTY dollar dent in their pocketbook. The cost of a good time is on the rise and showing no signs of dwindling to anything affordable for a fund-less college student. Expenses such as alcohol, and bar cover are just a few examples of the necessities that roll along with being a Falcon on the weekend.

First, college students participate in a pre-bar ritual called “pregaming.” This consists of binge drinking heavily to lessen the blow of the bar tab. Starting out with a six pack of beer will usually run you about eight dollars, roughly $1.30 per beer. This is just the beginning of the night and your bank statement is already paying the price. Second, tipsy students move on from their pregaming to the big show, the bar. The bar first robs students of their paycheck for a cover charge. This expense costs anywhere from five to ten dollars depending on the bar. The biggest buck breaker come next; the drinks at the bar. A beer or a shot at the bar costs anywhere from two dollars to ten dollars.

The last stop on the train to broke is the late night food run. Already being in the hole anywhere from twenty to forty dollars, all senses of good and bad are thrown to the wind on the walk home. Stopping for food costs between five and ten dollars. Due to the pregaming and bar hopping, knowledge of bank account balances are lost somewhere between the third tequila shot and the fourth Bud Light Lime.

Pregaming, bar hopping, and the late night food run on one night of the weekend costs roughly thirty dollars, or in other words—an arm and a leg. With a thirty dollar debit on their bank statement, BGSU college students can think of only one thing on the very blurry, aching Saturday morning… What time are we starting tonight?

What to Wear...

Because it's the winter season dressing for BG nightlife and still trying to be the hottest person out can be difficult but it can be done. Keep in mind that BG is a college town, so anything goes. You can wear your favorite pair of jeans or finest party girl dress. Whatever the case dressing for the weather and looking great are two things that aren't hard to do.

Girls

The two staples you need for winter are a stylish coat and a killer pair of boots. With these two things you are sure to look hot even during the cold winter months. There are multiple possibilities for both, but if you are going to spend money shopping this winter spend it on these two items
A leather or pleather (fake leather) jacket is a great going out piece. It is edgy, sexy and always in style. Plus is you get a real leather jacket it will keep you extremely warm. (do not wear it as shown, if you do you will not stay warm) This one is from Victoria Secret.com and is on sale for $150. It is a little pricey for most college students, but you can always find a version of this coat at forever21. To make this look even hotter, you can add a cute chunky scarf and a knit hat. The possibilities for these are endless. Add whatever color or pattern of scarves and hats you like. You can make the outfit your own by doing this. You can also change it up by wearing different scarves and hats depending on the look you want. Here is just and idea.

I love the look of the big comfy scarves and hats and once again not only do they look cute, but they are warm! If you don't like the leather look. I suggest you choose a wool coat. I really like the military style ones right now. They have a bit of fun to them. This one is from Victoria Secret.com again and it's on sale for $99 dollars. It's also a little expensive, but you can always find cheaper alternatives.

This style of coat goes great with a pair of gloves and a hat. I would skip the scarf if it has a high button up collar, like this one. However this look below made a scarf under the jacket work, so play around with it until you find something you like.

Fedoras and newsboy hats are also fun hats to wear in the winter.
Since you must be put together from head to toe, lets look at some boots. Boots are one of the best things about winter and not just because they keep your feet warm. There are so many styles and colors to choose from and they are only brought out during the chilly winter months. Here are a few of my favorites.

First of all anything suede is great, it just looks warm!
These knee high boots are sexy and comfortable with their flat soles.

I also like again anything leather and these lace up, boots are very masculine, but can be extremely attractive on females when worn with confidence.

Finally the ankle booties are very flirty and can really make a statement in a bright color, like this electric blue. Or you can always do a more toned down statement with a black pair of booties that have some kind of detail.

It doesn't matter what style, color are variation you choose. All that matters is that you stay warm, while still looking cool in the winter. Please do not get caught in the cold wearing a tube top and some strappy stilettos with your feet all exposed on Main Street. You may think you are tolerating frostbite to look good, but in reality you just look cold.
